Taste of Chicago @ Grant Park

The Taste kicks off for its 27th year of feasting in Grant Park. The festival runs for 10 days (through July 8th) and features dishes from over 70 restaurants. And yeah, there will also be some live music and other activities, including cooking demonstrations and games for the kids. The gates will open at 11am each day and close at 9:30pm. Admission is free but you do have to buy tickets to get the food. Call 312-744-3315 for more information.

Movies in the Park

The Chicago Park District presents Movies in the Park, a summer-long screening of classic and contemporary films in Chicago parks. Tonight is a good night if you want to see Happy Feet; the film will be screened at Mayfair Park (4550 W. Sunnyside), Clarendon Park Community Center (4501 N. Clarendon Ave.), and Mozart Park (2036 N. Avers). If you've already seen Happy Feet, you could always check out Nanny McPhee, which will be screening at Sauganash Park (5861 N. Kostner). Larmore Sings Ravel @ Harris Theater

The Grant Park Orchestra features noted mezzo soprano Jennifer Larmore and music by Kernis, Britten, Ravel, and Dvorak this evening at 6:30 PM. 205 E Randolph, free. For more information, visit the website.

The Juan Maclean DJ set @ Smart Bar

Former Six Finger Satellite guitarist and current DFA associate John Maclean (aka The Juan Maclean) hits Smart Bar tonight to spin a headlining DJ set. The event is presented by URB Magazine and Prime Time Of Your Life. Life During Wartime DJs Bald Eagle and Popstatic are also on the bill. Admission is $10, but free before 11pm. 3730 N. Clark St.

Fugue State (2-day festival) @ Empty Bottle

Fugue State, a 2-day festival of drone music sponsored by Rebis Records, will be taking place at the Empty Bottle (1035 N. Western) Friday and Saturday. Friday's lineup will include DRMWPN (Dreamweapon), Haptic, Good Stuff House, Matt Clark, and The Number None. See Transmission for more details.
