Al Green @ Northerly Island

The Reverend is back. This year's Lay It Down is already a frontrunner for R&B album of the year honors, and the young folk get an idea that the man their parents played records of hasn't had his voice affected by the ravages of time. Soulive opens, and they're pretty good, too. Tickets are from $35 to $85, depending on where you want to sit.

Mayor's Cup Soccer Tournament @ Montrose Harbor

More than 400 five-on-five teams (made up of kids 5-14 years old) will compete in this free two-day tournament. Music, dancing and other activities will also be featured. The festivities start at 9 a.m. Saturday and conclude with an awards ceremony at 6 p.m. on Sunday. It all takes place at Montrose Harbor, Montrose and Lake Shore Drive.

Fight Club Chicago @ Aragon Ballroom

Sally A. Kitt Chappell @ Newberry Library

Historian Sally A. Kitt Chappell comes to the Newberry Library to discuss her book Chicago's Urban Nature: A Guide to the City's Architecture + Landscape. In the book she provides insights into historic sites such as the Garfield Park Conservatory and Jackson Park and looks at the contemporary green spaces they've inspired, from City Hall's rooftop garden to Millennium Park. Greek Festival @ St. Andrew's Church

Opa! It's time to party like the Greeks -- with food, ouzo, beer and carnival rides at St. Andrew's Church in Edgewater. This celebration of Greek culture includes traditional food, live folk music and dancing, carnival rides and games, an Orthodox book store, Greek art, a raffle and silent auction. Folk & Roots Festival @ Welles Park

The Old Town School of Folk Music presents the 11th annual Folk & Roots Festival this weekend in Welles Park (corner of Montrose & Western). Walkup workshops @ Sacred Art

Sacred Art, the Roscoe Village boutique that offers handmade art by local artists, is holding a weekend of art workshops this weekend. Cherries and Berries @ Green City Market

This Saturday's Green City Market (1750 N. Clark from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.) brings sweet cherries, which apparently are only around for a few weeks, from Seedling. Seedling also tells us to look for their sour cherries (aka tart, or pie, cherries) next week - and that although blueberries and raspberries typically go from tart to sweet as the season progresses, you can expect them sweeter straight away this time.
