Footlight Parade @ LaSalle Bank Cinema

As part of the LaSalle Bank Classic Film Series Footlight Parade is showing tonight at 4901 W. Irving Park Rd., 8pm. It's a "backstage musical comedy" with James Cagney, Dick Powell and Joan Blondell in "unforgettable dance numbers." Also showing tonight is a short comedy from 1944 titled "Movie Pests." Tense Forms Showcase @ Subterranean

Tense Forms, a community of local artists, presents Heat: the second annual Tense Forms showcase. Music, visual art, film, poetry and performance by artists from Tense Forms. Chicago SummerDance

The ninth annual Chicago SummerDance festival of public dancing continues tonight in the Spirit of Music Garden in Grant Park (601 S. Michigan, between Harrison and Balbo). This evening's entertainment: Latin Rhythms, teaching salsa dancing; and Carpacho y Super Combo, playing Colombian and salsa music. SummerDance features one hour of dance lessons, followed by two hours of live music and dancing. Tonight's show runs from 6:00 to 9:30, and SummerDance runs at the park Wednesday-Sunday nights (weather permitting) through August 28. See the SummerDance site for a complete schedule.

Huff & Bowden on the Late Night Late Show

Gapers Block editor and co-founder Andrew Huff will be a guest on ImprovOlympic's "Late Night Late Show" tonight at midnight, along with Rachelle Bowden from Chicagoist. They're supposedly talking about weblogs, but seeing as it's an improv talk show, chances are it'll be a bit wacky. Tickets are $5; for reservations, call the box office at 773-880-0199.

FitzGerald's American Music Festival

FitzGerald's, 6615 W. Roosevelt Rd. in Berwyn, throws its 24th annual American Music Festival this weekend, and the stages are loaded with great acts. Today's line-up includes Jeff and Vida, Grey DeLisle, The John Burnett Orchestra, Eh La-Bas!, Dallas Wayne and Redd Volkert, Tributosaurus as The Band, Kevin Gordon and Jennifer Nicely, Patterson Hood, The Lee Boys, The Kinsey Report, Cathy Richardson Band, The Gourds and Robbie Fulks. Your Formula Life @ Tini Martini

Tonight, local promotional collectives Meiotic and Koncept team up to present the next edition of their bi-monthly Your Formula Life series at Chicago's Tini Martini. This installment features performances from BMG of Ectomorph fame and a DJ set from Planet E recording artist Common Factor. Tickets are $5, or free before 11 PM, and you must be 21 to get in. Tini Martini is located at 2169 N Milwaukee Ave, and the night takes place in the newly renovated rear lounge.
