Joe Meno/Jay Ryan Book Release Party @ Hideout

Tonight at The Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia, there is a book release party for Chicago writer Joe Meno's new short story collection, Bluebirds Used to Croon in the Choir and silkscreen star and Dianogah frontman Jay Ryan's collection of rock posters, 100 Posters, 134 Squirrels. Do-it-yourself Messiah @ Civic Opera House

Tonight is the second performance of this year's "do-it-yourself Messiah", which is a performance of Handel's Messiah with the audience performing the choral parts. Opening: A Bloody Portent of Possible Erotic Chaos

Dealing explicitly with paganism, "A Bloody Portent of Possible Erotic Chaos" hopes to use "deceptive morphing and non-rational skepticism to smear distinctions of familiar and distant phenomena, emanating a charged field of voraciously unhinged destructive and reproductive energy." Featured artists include Nate Godfrey, Taylor Hokanson and Matthew Steinke. Tonight's opening is from 6-9pm, but you can catch the show through December 29 at BSD Gallery, 1319 W. United Weblogger Meetup Day

Today is United Weblogger Meetup Day, and so tonight at 7pm, interested bloggers are invited to come to the "Mini-Auditorium" in Columbia College's journalism department (33 E. Congress, 2nd floor, Room 219) for an organizational meeting. Topics could include ways to publicize blogs and bloggers, design seminars, expert talks, etc. Free.
