AREA: Chicago Release Party

AREA: Chicago Art/Education/Activism is holding a release party for the publication of their second issue. AREA#2 focuses on "food politics through the lens of local groups who are committed to urban argriculture, radical ecology and to creating an alternative food infrastructure in Chicago." Stop byt the Chicago Cultural Center at the Randolph and Michigan entrance to pick up a free copy of the magazine and learn more about AREA's goals, 6-7pm. Opening: Museum

Appetite Theatre presents Museum, a "multi-layered c omedy of manners that follows the movement of art lovers, skeptics, students and lost souls through the final day of an art show." Written by Tina Howe, the show goes on at the Studio Theater in the Chicago Cultural Center, 77 E. Randolph. Tickets to tonight's opening night performance are $40 and include a post-show reception with wine and hors d'oeuvres. Regular tickets are $15; $12 for students and seniors. 8pm. Opening: Optimism

What is optimism? Is it the glass half full? Is it the belief that everything works out for the best? Faith that good will ultimately triumph over evil? Aesthetic Eye examines all of this with a group show opening tonight with a gala reception. Featuring the works of artists such as Jan Hobson, Tara Thelen, Kevin O'Connell and Larry Zgoda with painting, photography, stained glass and fiber. 6pm at 1520 W. Chris Saathof Benefit tonight

The 2nd anniversary of Chris Saathof's passing was this past Tuesday. A benefit will be held tonight at The Beat Kitchen (10PM, $10, 18+), featuring The Hot Machines whose member, Miss Alex White was Saathof's old musical partner. [Thanks Jennifer!]
