The Chicago Park District's Theater on the Lake opens this evening. Each week a new play will be offered at the Theater on the Lake stage at 2401 N. Lake Shore Drive. This week's play is The Secret Garden by the Porchlight Music Theatre. This play will be performed Wednesday, June 14 through Sunday, June 18. Showtime is 7:30 PM (6:30 PM on Sunday evenings). Tickets are $17.50 and can be purchased by calling the box office at (312) 742-7994. The Theater on the Lake series runs through August 13.
The Grant Park Music Festival's season opener features the Joffrey Ballet performing Afternoon of a Faun, so if you like ballet you'll want to show up early enough to grab a seat close to the stage. Pritzer Pavillion, 6:30 PM. Free. For more information, visit the website.
In conjunction with the Nick Cave: Soundsuits exhibit, Instruments of Movement presents a short dance performance wearing some of Cave's soundsuits. Occasional GB wine columnist Christine Blumer is hosting a special wine event tonight through her company, Wine Diva Enterprises. Along with sampling some tasty wines, you'll also be helping out the Appetite Theatre and celebrating Women in Wine with wines made, owned, or inspired by women. Watch the lovely little French restaurant, Kiki's Bistro, turn Franklin Street into its own private Champs Elysees on June 14th, with a parade of over 20 vintage Citroen automobiles, a strolling musician, and a new sidewalk cafe menu. The Bistro is located at 900 N. Franklin St. and the festivities start at 6:30pm.
