Wine and Words Benefit

The Wine and Words event is a benefit for 826CHI taking place tonight at 7pm at the Heartland Cafe. "Check Please!" host Alpana Singh is the emcee for the event, which will also feature authors Charles Blackstone, Gina Frangello and Cris Mazza. Plus, enjoy a tasting of South American wines while helping support 826CHI, a non-profit tutoring and writing center. The suggested donation is $20. Call 773-465-8005 for reservations, and visit the 826CHI website for complete details.

Wicked Rejoicifies and Festivates

After a year in Chicago, which has embraced this book-turned-musical with sold out shows to beat the band, the folks behind Wicked want to "rejoicify and festivate" with you. They'll be putting on some events today, with some cool prizes like special gifts from Wicked to the first 365 "witches" done up in green paint and dressed like the Wicked Witch of the West. There will also be sing-a-longs with the Chicago Elphalba, Kristy Gates and other bigtime Wicked fans. The witching hour for this event is 12:30pm at Water Tower Park (Michigan and Pearson). (Rain site: the G.A.R. hall inside the Chicago Cultural Center.)

Tuesdays on the Terrace @ MCA

Kick back at the Museum of Contemporary Art after work. Check out the farmer's market out front (it closes by 6 PM), wander through the exhibits (MCA admission is free Tuesdays), and conclude your evening lounging on the terrace, listening to jazz (the concert starts at 5:30 PM) and enjoying one of the best views in Chicago. For more information, call MCA at 312-280-2660 or visit the website.

Rush Hour Concert @ St. James Cathedral

Professional musicians who play with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Chamber Musicians, and other ensembles perform at this series of free, 30-minute chamber music concerts. Doors open at 5:15 PM, with refreshments. Tonight's music, a Dvorak string quartet, starts at 5:45 PM. 65 E Huron. For more information, visit the website.

Levi Hernandez, Baritone @ Cultural Center

As part of the Vocal Journeys series, Levi Hernandez of the Lyric Opera will perform "Die Schoene Magelone," a medieval tale set to music by Brahms, this evening at 6:30 PM in Preston Bradeley Hall. Free, 78 E Washington Street. For more information, call 312-744-6630 or visit the website.
