Gen Art's Ignite! 2006
Gen Art flexes their multimedia muscles for Ignite!, a collection of art, film, fashion and live performances in all sorts of media exhibits. Voices from Home: Local Authors Speak
The Friends of the Blackstone Branch Library welcome Elizabeth Fama for a children's workshop on writing. The author will share her experience writing her novel Overboard and will offer tips on how to make your own writing fun. It Came From The Neo-Futurarium: The Jazz Singer @ Neo-Futurarium
The Neo-Futurists continue their 5th annual It Came From The Neo-Futurarium series of dramatic readings of bad film scripts tonight with a staged reading of the classic (classically bad, that is) 1980 Neil Diamond movie The Jazz Singer. The directors promise a cameo appearance by an actual original cast member from the original film! Don't want to miss that! The program begins tonight at 8:00 at the Neo-Futurarium (5153 N. Ashland, at Foster). Tickets are $10, $8 for students w/valid ID, and $2 off for repeat customers. 2nd Annual Printers' Ball
The Double Door is hosting the 2nd Annual Printers' Ball: A Celebration of Chicago Print. The event not only gets you some good music - like DJ sets by Punk Planet and Venus - but you'll also get the chance to check out some great local reads. Some of those on site will be Another Chicago Magazine, Make Magazine, Newcity, Featherproof Books and The2ndHand, with many more in attendence. Life of Brian @ Film Center
The Gene Siskel Film Center presents a screening of four essential Monty Python films during the month of July. National Hip Hop Political Convention
This year's National Hip Hop Political Convention will be held at Northeastern's Jacob Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies, 700 E. Oakwood Blvd. Focusing on commerce, grassroots activism, personal and collective responsibility, community development and civic participation, among other things, the convention aims to educate and engage youth to help shape the future of our county. The convention runs through July 23, with various workshops and lectures scheduled throughout the days. A complete schedule of events can be obtained here. Powell's North Reading Series
The Powell's North Reading Series continues tonight with Kathy Regina, Amanda Traxler and featured poet Srikanth Reddy.
