As part of the Gene Siskel Film Center's monthly series of music films, they will be screening a newly restored 35mm print of the 1973 D A Pennebaker documentary of David Bowie's final appearance as Ziggy Stardust at the Hammersmith Odeon. The theme for this month's booze-inspired literary event is road trips. Join guest writers Jotham Burrello, Drew Bazini, Darwyn Jones and Allison Spangenberg with RUI regulars Rob Duffer and Carly Huegelmann as they read from writings related to the art of the road trip. The Chicago Park District's Theater on the Lake series of plays continues this evening. Each week a new play will be offered at the Theater on the Lake stage at 2401 N. Lake Shore Drive. This week's play is Blaxploitation: The Remix by the Ma'at Production Association of Afrikan Centered Theatre (MPAACT). This play will be performed Wednesday, August 2 through Sunday, August 6. If you are lucky enough to have just gotten a good daytime dose of the Chicago Undergound Duo at the Pitchfork Music Festival, you can hit that again tonight at the Empty Bottle, and celebrate the release of their new album as well. This will be the Underground Duo's first Empty Bottle appearance in over four years, and will be quite a jazzy, electronic, cornet-fueled treat.
