The Media Burn Independent Video Archive holds over 4,000 Chicago-based nonfiction videos and they're celebrating the launch of their streaming video website with a Drive-In Benefit and Multimedia Extravaganza. Come to the roof of the ROW Self-Park on Rush between Ontario and Wabash from 5-8:30 to help start the site off right. $50 gets you in plus two drinks, food and free parking (you can pay $15 if you're a student or struggling artist). There will also be a ceremonial balloon launch, a marching band and a live auction of vintage video-related items. Call 773-794-0058 for more information.
ArtWalk Ravenswood is featuring a documentary photography exhibit of the Ravenswood Industrial Corridor. The exhibit by Andrew Steiner "explores the diverse population of this quietly productive area within a historical context." The Walk is in its fifth year and offers events, tours, open studios and the opportunity to view art in numerous galleries. Check out the website to find every last moresel of arty goodness. Come see new works by Cornelias Arts Building residents and Friends of the Arts members. Friends of the Arts is a nonprofit arts support group that specializes in promoting emerging art and artists. Hot roller derby action! The Windy City Rollers' second season playoffs find the Double Crossers taking on The Fury, and the Manic Attackers, um, attacking the Hell's Belles. The Old Town School of Folk Music presents the latest in a series of one-day workshops for people who want to learn a little bit about a musical or dance technique. Today's workshop: the ever-popular turntablist workshop, as taught by battle DJ Danny the Wild Child. The Chicagoland Bicycle Federation is sponsoring this event in honor of Dick Herron, a bicyclist killed by a careless driver in Libertyville in 2005.
