The Chicago Short Film Brigade brings its program of short films back to the Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia, tonight at 8:30pm. $8, 21 and over. Not able to make it tonight? There's another showing tomorrow night at Experimental Station, and again on Sunday at the Hideout.
As part of the City of Chicago's Festival of Maps, this exhibition showcases multi-media arts installations from Chicago Arts Partnerships in Education and Columbia College Chicago's Center for Community Arts Partnerships. It is a culmination of curricular and conceptual explorations of map-making from students in nine Chicago Public Schools, representing student artists from kindergarten to high school. The installations, directed by professional artists and teachers, feature compelling social and cultural histories as well as visionary images of students' sense of place in their neighborhoods and the world. The Neo-Futurists kick off their seventh annual "film fest" of staged readings of the worst films ever! Tonight's kick-off film is Beach Blanket Bingo, the classic beach party film, as performed by Chicago's own go-go superstars The Revelettes. It Came From The Neo-Futurarium happens every Thursday night through July 31. Tickets are $10, $2 off for students and repeat customers, and the shows start at 8:00 PM. Diana Taurasi and the rest of the 2007 WNBA champion Mercury (5-7) travel to Chicago to take on the Sky (3-8) who are trying to break a four-game losing streak. THE2NDHAND celebrates the release of its 28th issue with a shotgun wedding tonight at 8pm at Ronny's, 2103 N. California. Chicago Editor C.T.Ballentine will preside over the ceremony, alongside Fred Sasaki, Jacob Knabb, Jill Summers, Susie Kirkwood, Chris Bower and our maid of honor, Lauren Pretnar. The Spectacles will be the wedding band, and there're $2 PBR cans at the "reception" afterwards. It's $6 at the door, 21 and over.
