Skinema Signing
Chris Nieratko is one of those guys who most people view with a mix of disgust and awe. He's worked with the "Jackass" folks, written for such publications as the skateboarding mag Big Brother, Vice, and Hustler, and now he's published his bizarro collection in his new book, Skinema. Get your copy signed June 26 at Quimby's.

Chris Nieratko is kind of a legend in his world -- if you google, will find a ton, owns two skate shops in n. jersey, has written everywhere from big brother to hustler, part of the original jackass crew. Skinema is a brutally hilarious collection of rants and reminiscences written under the guise of porn reviews from the popular Vice Magazine columnist. Ten years ago Chris Nieratko was getting drunk with pals from the seminal skateboard magazine Big Brother and writing whatever came to his wasted head. When he became the editor they all started a now infamous group of idiots called Jackass. Chris ate eggs until he puked for the show but his love of pills and sleeping lent itself more to the literary world. When Vice Magazine and a few other outlets said they needed porn reviews, Chris obliged by sticking the names of porn videos above various rants about his life. The review for Liquid Gold #2 begins, "My mom could single-handedly save my town from flooding if ever the occasion arose. She once worked at the United States' largest producer of maxi-pads and before being laid off, stockpiled truckloads of the stuff." He proceeds to mention the porn he is reviewing approximately zero times. The hook is that the pieces hardly ever address the video, instead using the video as an excuse to talk about his own life. The pieces ultimately form an anarchic memoir of sex, drugs, failed romantic encounters with pornstars, mean-spirited antics, and the ultimate show-stopper: marriage.
