The Anti-Cruelty Society

"We were located in no mere firetrap but had two stories of a fairly new modern building just off the Gold Coast, not far from the scene of the St. Valentine's Day Massacre and, for that matter, from the Humane Society on Grand Avenue."

The Chicago Anti-Cruelty Society was founded in 1899, formed originally as a response to the abuse of working horses in the city. The organization has been located at the corner of Grand Avenue and La Salle Street since at least 1935.
