3210 W. Arthington St.

"...he said he could get her into a Home for the blind on Arthington Street if we could pay part of the cost. It came to fifteen bucks a month."

Although the institution for the blind where Augie March's mother is sent to live was likely fictional, this beautiful building on Arthington Street on Chicago's West Side plays an institutional role in the community today. The Crossroads Adult Transition Center, administered by the Safer Foundation, provides offenders with the Illinois Department of Corrections an opportunity to gradually transition back into society prior to their full release from prison.
